Artist's Statement
Lois Jackson, Botanical Artist

I love flowers… and lichens, and mushrooms, and seedpods.
As both botanist and artist, I am fascinated by the intricacies of plant growth and flower structure. I seldom return from a walk without something to draw and paint.

We are surrounded by the beauty of plants and flowers in our forests, fields and gardens. It is important to see both the individual plants and their interrelationships in those settings.

Through my artwork, I hope to use the traditional techniques of botanical and scientific illustration to capture the beauty of our native wild plants as well as the more exotic species that we cultivate in our homes and gardens.
